Eat, exercise, explore — Enjoy New York like a New Yorker.
  • About Me

The 2008 ING NYC Marathon.

November 5th, 2007

Did yesterday inspire you to follow the path of the heroic, through 5 boroughs and 26.2 miles of the greatest city on earth? You can do it. And you’ve got plenty of time to get in shape.

Start with a membership to the New York Road Runners Club where you’ll find a training schedule, advice, coaching and companionship for your journey.

Outfit yourself at the Super Runners Store, where expert advice and an excellent selection of sneakers and socks can help offset a training injury.

Compliment your running with cross training. Chelsea Piers offers an excellent selection of sports and personal trainers to compliment your program, from swimming and biking, to weight training and Pilates.

Center yourself with a yoga practice. Though no sport prepares you for yoga, yoga is excellent preparation for all sports. A rigorous practice at Jivamukti will stretch and strengthen your body, and give you the mental clarity and focus to get to and round the course.

Treat yourself. A little massage goes a long way.

    About

My Urban Sherpa is an Internet resource for travelers and residents alike, whose plethora of interests and dearth of free time demand reliable information of the well-heeled and well-traveled.

My Urban Sherpa recommends restaurants, shops, exercise facilities and cultural events that cover well-known destinations and hidden neighborhood gems. Easy to navigate, time efficient, and up-to-date, the site winnows an overwhelming number of choices into a manageable and reliable selection.

Visitors can search for information by category and neighborhood. Listings include the street address, phone number, map, Web link, pithy description and occasionally a logo or photo.

Recommendations on where to dine, how to spend Saturday, and where to go for culinary inspiration appear in short editorials from iconic New Yorkers. Reviews may be added by registered members. My Urban Sherpa is free to the user, whom we hope includes you.
