Crawfish in Central Park?

August 21st, 2008

New Yorkers are used to the wide array of wildlife living in Central Park, e.g. raccoons. But did you know there are an abundance of crawfish not only in Central Park, but Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, too? (The hooded mergansers certainly know.)

Well I didn’t know this before, but I sure know now! I’m still shocked by this– shocked. And so completely amused!

I saw one today in Prospect Park! Walking from Lefferts to Park Slope, I had just passed the boathouse. When I came over the bridge, I happened to look down on the path. One right in front of me! I snapped a few pics on my phone, but still couldn’t believe it. My friends are just as shocked as me.

    Where did they come from?
