The Fine Art of Children’s Book Illustration at Society of Illustrators
At Society of Illustrators, a lovely townhouse at 128 East 63rd Street, is the annual exhibition of original art from the year’s best children’s books. Selected by a jury of outstanding illustrators, art directors and editors, this year’s show features 122 books chosen from 650 entries submitted nationwide.
Awards were bestowed upon three outstanding illustrators; a gold medal was awarded to Suzy Lee for her distinguished illustrations in Wave, published by Chronicle Books, and silver medals were awarded to Kadir Nelson We Are The Ship and to Bill Mayer for All Aboard!
The 2008 Lifetime Achievement Awards honored Leo and Diane Dillon and William Steig posthumously.
The exhibition runs through November 26th. Hours are Tuesday 10:00 – 8:00, Wednesday – Friday 10:00 – 5:00 and Saturday 12:00 to 4:00
