A Woman’s Wit: Jane Austen’s Life and Legacy at The Morgan

austenThis exhibition explores the life, work, and legacy of Jane Austen (1775–1817) — one of England’s greatest novelists.

The exhibition draws a portrait of the author  through the presentation of more than 100 works, including her manuscripts, personal letters, and related materials.

A Woman’s Wit: Jane Austen’s Life and Legacy includes first and early illustrated editions of Austen’s novels as well as drawings and prints depicting people, places, and events of biographical significance. A highlight of the exhibition is a specially commissioned film by the noted Italian director Francesco Carrozzini, featuring interviews with artists and scholars such as Siri Hustvedt, Fran Lebowitz, Sandy Lerner, Colm Tóibín, Harriet Walter, and Cornel West.

E.J.Camp Photography Exhibition of TIDES at SEAN NY

EJ CAMP, celebrity portrait photographer whose career has straddled NY and LA since the 1990s is exhibiting a new body of seascapes entitled “TIDE” at Sean in Soho through November 23, 2009.

The exhibition includes black and white giclee prints of the water — calm and in full force, photographed by the artist in Orient Point and printed in her New York Studio.

SEAN is the upscale haberdasher at 199 Prince Street, between Sullivan and McDougal.

Hours of operation are  Monday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Sundays from noon to 7:00 PM.

The IFDA Print Fair at The Armory

beatrizThe highlight of the  New York Print Fair opening with a benefit cocktail party tonight, November 4 and running through the week-end, are gorgeous new prints from Durham Press.

The annual IFPDA Print Fair is unique among the world’s major art fairs for its focus on fine prints from all periods. All dealers exhibiting at the Fair are members of the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA).

Durham Press will be in booth A30, near the Cafe, with new work by Polly Apfelbaum, Emil Lukas
James Nares and Ray Charles White.

And will be exhibiting recent prints by Beatriz Milhazes, Alison Elizabeth Taylor, and John Giorno, and Tom Slaughter.
